OFTOXANE is packaged under sterile conditions. To prevent contamination must be careful not to touch eyelids, eyelashes and adjacent areas or any other surface with the tip of the bottle. Keep the dropper bottle and bottle dispenser carefully closed.
As with other antibiotics, prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. It is recommended to periodically examine the patient. It should discontinue use of the product at the first sign of rash or other hypersensitivity reaction.
It should be considered that persistent corneal fungal infections after prolonged treatment with corticosteroids may happen. Prolonged use of dexamethasone can result in lens opacity (cataract), increased intraocular pressure in susceptible patients and secondary infections.
The owners of the animals should be instructed to properly handle the peak of the bottle avoiding contact with the eye and adjacent structures or any other surface. Animal owners should be informed that the inappropriate handling of the bottle can contaminate causing eye infections. The use of contaminated products may cause serious eye damage.
Adverse reactions have been reported rarely occur with drugs that associate a steroid and an anti-infective agent, which can be attributed to the steroid component, the anti-infective component, or the combination of both.
