It should be considered that persistent corneal fungal infections after prolonged treatment with corticosteroids may happen. Prolonged use of dexamethasone can result in lens opacity (cataract), increased intraocular pressure in susceptible patients and secondary infections.
The owners of the animals should be instructed to properly handle the peak of the bottle avoiding contact with the eye and adjacent structures or any other surface. Animal owners should be informed that the inappropriate handling of the bottle can contaminate causing eye infections. The use of contaminated products may cause serious eye damage.
